Thermoluminescence Test (T.L.)
- The test conducted to determine the amount of thermoluminescence (T.L.), the violet-blue light emitted by clay that has been heated or fired  and which intensity is directly proportional to the time that has elapsed since fired.  Thus, the build up of T.L. over time, detected with a very sensitive device known as a photomultiplier tube, which measurable signal can determine the date (+/- 100 years range approx.) of the ceramic piece.  Oxford Authentication Ltd in the U.K. is the foremost renown laboratory in the world for thermoluminescence testing and also the only facility in compliance with international quality assurance standards.
